Calgary, AB – June 15, 2018 - RGL Reservoir Management is proud to announce some staff changes within its Business Development team that are going to change the way RGL services its clients. New hires Dr. Mahdi Mahmoudi and Jeff Cyre join as RGL’s newest Petroleum/Geomechanics Engineer and Drilling and Completions Engineer, respectively, while Colby Sutton and Dr. Da Zhu have been promoted to BD Manager – Canada and Flow Control Engineering Manager, respectively.
RGL, the top sand control engineering and manufacturing company in Canada, boasts an enviable global business development team. With extensive knowledge and experience in sand and flow control technologies, RGL’s staff has more than 150 years of combined engineering team experience, consisting primarily of graduate-level talents.
As RGL’s Flow Control Engineering Manager and a respected expert in his field, Zhu holds multiple advanced degrees, including a PhD degree in Computational Fluid Dynamics from MIT, a PhD degree in Geophysical Sciences from Chicago University, a Master’s degree in Advanced Mathematics from Polytechnic Institute at New York University, and a Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Calgary, as well as an undergraduate degree in mathematics.
His new role will see Zhu be primarily responsible for all flow control device (FCD)-related initiatives from a technical business development-related focus on reservoir-to-engineered designs of nozzles/orifices/ports. Already making an impact, in the last six months Zhu has designed and applied to patent unique nozzle technology.
Sutton moved to the Canadian BD Manager position earlier this year from his previous post as Technical Sales and Completions Engineer under just three years with RGL. A mechanical engineer with many years of experience in the oil and gas industry, Sutton was involved in oilfield construction and cold primary field operations, as well as thermal drilling and completions engineering. He completed his BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta and received awards such as the Building Futures Scholarship Award, Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers Association Scholarship, and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers Award Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
RGL’s commitment to research was strengthened when Dr. Mahmoudi joined the team. Dr. Mahmoudi is a graduate of the University of Alberta where he obtained a PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering. He has been involved in sand control design and evaluation testing in conventional and thermal production for more than a decade. Dr. Mahmoudi’s academic and industrial background working on drilling rigs in Iran focused on drilling and well completion, and he has authored and co-authored over 20 technical conference publications on the subjects of sand control design, evaluation, drill string failure, and risk assessment in drilling and well completion. Dr. Mahmoudi plays an instrumental role in providing clients with upfront engineering through RGL's proLAB™, ensuring the right sand control and flow control solutions are selected for their completions.
And most recently rounding out the BD team is Drilling and Completions Engineer – BD, Jeff Cyre. Coming to RGL with 15 years in the oil and gas industry, Cyre holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois. His time spent at Shell Oil and MEG Energy working across North America and internationally makes his insight on SAGD drilling and completions crucial to the team.
